In the vast majority of cases, after standard treatment, after remission, the cancer returns. When it has been suppressed below the level of clinical detection by the use of toxic chemotherapeutic agents, it comes back with a vengeance. It comes back faster, more aggressively, and it usually becomes resistant to the drugs that were used successfully in the first time. Also, the second time the cancer may multiply much faster than it did in the first time, and the original drugs may not be fast enough to counteract it. There is no other disease where the success of the treatment is measured by a five-year survival period. With cancer, it became necessary to invent a buzzword that creates a semblance of success where the mortality statistics are catastrophic. This way, those breast cancer patients who stay alive for 5 years or more can be presented as successful cases. A recurring breast cancer condition can be detected many years before it would reach the level of clinical detection using standard procedures. The method is pleasant, non-invasive, and 100% accurate. It is also available all over the country. Conversely, the aggressively promoted mammography is completely unable to detect recurring cancer before it reaches a level that, in many cases, represents the point of no return. There are three diagnostic/monitoring methods available that can save the breast cancer patient from the nightmare of an undetected recurrence. What is the connection between the 5-year survival concept and the medical establishment's refusal to use the best monitoring tests available? At first glance, it is a mystery. However, at a closer look, the mystery disappears, and a simple explanation emerges. Chemotherapy almost never clears up the cancer completely. It cannot, because the substances used are too toxic. To use enough to eradicate cancer at its most microscopic level, would kill the patient. From this it follows that if the most accurate test would be applied to patients who have just finished their chemotherapy and were declared cancer free, the vast majority would still show up positive for cancer. MRI, PET Scan, mammograph won't detect cancer on that level; the really precise tests would. Chemotherapy can only suppress cancer to a level where it is undetectable by standard tests. When it takes more than five years for the cancer to regrow to a detectable level, this is called a five-year survival case. Adopting a more precise monitoring method in general cancer care would reveal chemotherapy as a total failure. It would demonstrate the simple fact that a recurrence is nothing but the same cancer that has never been fully eradicated, and which has now grown back. It may take 3 years, 5 years, 7 years, but it will still be the same cancer, either at its original location, or at a metastasized level. In those rare cases where the cancer never returns, the immune system was able to take over and clean up the remaining cancer. This is not an abstract, theoretical issue; it is the reason why breast cancer patients die. In order to change the pattern of recurrence, cancer patients must understand why it is happening. They must learn about the nature of cancer, and about its ability to strike again and again, despite of surgery ("we took out everything!") and chemo ("you are cancer free!"), and they must learn about the methods of detecting and eliminating the recurrence. Cancer may be growing in the body for years before it becomes clinically observable. A breast cancer may have started many years before it has been diagnosed. It is vitally important, both for preventing and for monitoring breast cancer to use diagnostic tools that are able to recognize the disease at a very early stage. There are three methods for detecting breast cancer at an early stage. Two of these tests are FDA approved, and they are commercially available since several years, although they are little known among breast cancer patients, and seldom used by allopathic oncologists. The third method is well known among naturopathic and holistic doctors. The first one is a blood test. Its false positive/negative rate is 5%, but if the test is repeated, its reliability is raised to almost 100%. It can detect breast cancer at least 12-15 months before the cancer becomes clinically detectable. The second one is even more reliable when used for breast cancer. It can recognize formation of malignancies up to 10-12 years before they become observable by other methods. It doesn't produce false positives or negatives. It is a gentle, completely non- invasive technique. Both tests are FDA approved, highly scientific, and they are known to medical doctors and oncologists. The third is a computerized electronic device that can scan the whole body without any invasive procedure or discomfort. It is used by naturopathic oncologists and by holistic doctors. Yet, at the same time, mammography is strongly promoted, despite of being vigorously opposed by medical experts all over the world.
